Principal World Designer

Aspyr is seeking a Principal World Designer to create levels and content for an upcoming AAA Role-Playing Game. 


In this role, you will work closely with the Lead Designer, Systems Designers, and Level Artists to develop compelling gameplay spaces, and populate them with engaging combat, exploration, and quest content. 


 The ideal candidate will have proven mastery in level design, environmental story-telling, and narrative content scripting/execution. 

Job Description:

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Lead Designer to design epic and engaging worlds for the Player to explore

  • Design, document, and implement scripted quest content, as well as ambient world content

  • Construct world geometry according to content needs - then work closely with Environment artists to iterate, detail, and polish levels across development phases

  • Own the level design process - collaborate with other disciplines to establish proper metrics. pipelines, and standards, and ensure they are followed

  • Investigate, communicate, and resolve emergent world-building, content-scripting, or level performance issues throughout development

  • Serve as a model advocate, collaborator, and liaison representing Design to other departments


 

Required Skills:

  •  5+ years game development experience in a Design role

  • At least 1 shipped title in a Level or Content Design Role

  • Extensive knowledge of game level design principles, environmental story-telling, and spatial flow

  • Expert-level experience in content scripting, especially with regards to branching mission structures

  • Knowledge of current industry trends and technology with regards to Role-Playing Games, content design, content scripting, and Player experience  

  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers both inside and outside the Design department

  • Strong documentation and written communication skills

  • Strong independent problem-solving and time-management skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to feedback, design, and scope changes throughout development


 

Extra Credit

  • Experience with Unreal Engine

  • Experience with art creation tools (Maya, 3DS Max, Photoshop, etc)

  • Experience developing, and love of Role-Playing Games

  • The ability to explain complex or abstract topics to non-technical teammates  

  • Passion for storytelling and narrative across a variety of media
