Senior Level Designer

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Principal World Designer, the Senior Level Designer to be responsible for designing, planning, documenting, and implementing RPG quest content and game levels for an upcoming AAA Role-Playing Game. In this role, you will collaborate closely with other Designers, Writers, Engineers, and Artists to ensure the game’s quests and levels are engaging and memorable experiences for players. 

The ideal candidate is a collaborative, open communicator with a passion for RPGs,  who has extensive experience with quest scripting and level design on AAA RPG titles. You’ve set up standards and have embraced the importance of adhering to them in order to avoid perpetual review mode. 

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the communication channel between, and advocate for, Design and Engineering

  • Collaborate across disciplines to build AAA quality levels and quests in Aspyr’s custom UE4 Quest tools

  • Work with the Principal Level Designer, Environment Artists, and the Writing staff to plan out levels and quest flows

  • Create and maintain quest flow and level documentation

  • Maintain and uphold documentation, standards, and conventions to ensure integrity of files and pipelines within a large project

  • Identify, report & investigate emergent issues around content and workflows

  • Work with Combat Design, Writers, and the Environment Artists to ensure that all game spaces and quests meet the game’s required design and art metrics

  • Participate in reviews, stand-ups, playtests, and be willing to give and receive feedback

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Quest Design tools and processes such as the dialogue editor, stages, and sequencer timelines

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of game development experience

  • Previously shipped at least one title in a Level Design, Quest Designer, or World Designer

  • Stellar problem-solving and time-management skills

  • Strong communication skills and an ability to articulate ideas, issues, and feedback

  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively, take feedback, and adapt to design/scope changes throughout development

  • Experience with Unreal Engine (huge plus) 

  • Experience with scripting or visual scripting languages (C++, Blueprints, Lua, etc.)
